Natural Biologic Sources
Phenicell Regenerative Institute in Columbus, Ohio uses adult natural biologics from several acceptable tissue types and sites. Natural biologics from various sources are actively being researched for treatment of a whole host of diseases and ailments.
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)
This is patient's own blood drawn from the peripheral vein in the arm or hand. Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is defined as an autologous concentrated preparation of platelets and their associated growth factors in a small volume of plasma. Platelets are a natural source of numerous growth factors in their natural and biologically-determined ratios. Plasma is the liquid aspect of our blood which contain all the cellular components such as red and white blood cells, as well as platelets. PRP is not technically natural biologics, but rather a source of natural healing growth factors and other substances from these platelets, which have been shown to be helpful given alone or in combination with natural biologics from sources listed above. Using PRP offers an innovative and promising approach to tissue regeneration and healing in general. There are many clinical indications for PRP.
Alpha 2 Macroglobulin (A2M)
With approximately 30+ million of the Americans suffering from arthritic and degenerative conditions, scientists have found a new biological treatment in the field of regenerative medicine known as Alpha 2 Macroglobulin. While A2M is naturally occurring, it is unable to enter the joints in adults in large enough quantities due to its large size and the avascular structure or these tissues. A2M is a plasma protein and is found in significant quantities in the blood. A2M when concentrated and injected into an arthritic joint is able to inactivate a variety of cytokines and proteinases that are known to cause the degradation of cartilage and pain.
